Flags flying at half mast in honor of fallen heroes in Dallas
My heart is heavy that some people have so much HATE for those who put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect--to those that run toward gunfire to try to eliminate the danger for the citizens of Dallas, Texas, and the United States.
All senseless deaths of law enforcement officers hit home with me. I come from a family of law enforcement; I have many friends who put on the uniform and go out every day to the world of danger to protect us all.
I feel so helpless. All I know to do is to let officers know how much I appreciate them and their important work. Why do folks want to be officers anymore? I truly don't know. So many citizens and non-citizens no longer respect the uniform. Morale is low with many officers, and who can blame them? I have encouraged two of my neighbors (a husband and wife) who are with DPD to retire. I fear for them everyday they go to work. Neither of my neighbors were on duty the night of the horror. They return to duty today. The wife said she went out on her deck and had a "good cry" but she also said she didn't think it did any good. I can only hope it did in some way that she doesn't realize now. Maybe it will help her cope with the losses and the stress.
What will the citizens do if no one applies for the job? I understand that 3 classes for new hires have had to be cancelled due to lack of applicants.
Yesterday, I met friends in Dallas for lunch. Six uniformed officers came into the restaurant for their lunch break. I had to go over to their table and extend my appreciation for their dedication as well as my sympathy for their fallen comrades. One of my friends (unknown to me) told their waitress to bring him their lunch tickets. When they ask for their tickets, she told them it had been taken care of. As they came over to our table to shake his hand and thank him, I think I saw tears in the eyes of one of them. My friend's kindness wasn't much, but a heartfelt gesture that I believe truly made a difference in those officers' day. I hope so anyway.
I pray for the safety of the men and women in BLUE.

Well said!
ReplyDeleteI think reaching out to thank law enforcement is a necessary thing in these dark days. I can't imagine a world without them.
ReplyDeleteI stand with you and all of the law enforcement in Dallas and other cities. They put up with so much crap every day and night they go to work, and to blame them for what is going on in these cities is disgraceful. I find it exceptionally hypocritical that traveling instigators can incite and organize violent hate against law enforcement all over the country, but they will NOT organize to work with law enforcement of all colors to eliminate the criminal element in their own communities and cities. Law enforcement is NOT the problem, the thugs who are murdering with impunity every day are. Read this series in the Baltimore Sun about how black homicide detectives can't get cooperation from witnesses to get those murders indicted and off the streets! http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/investigations/bal-homicide-embed-part-one-story.html
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. My youngest son is a police officer and I fear for his life every day. He says he loves his job and believes he is making a small difference in some people's lives. I hope he is right.
