I've had this black/white cotton plaid in the stash for a couple of years. It is a twill with a soft (almost flannel) hand. I came up with this:

One selvage had a nice "fringe" that I decided to use on the front opening. Here's a close-up:

I just cut the selvage edge the length of the jacket front. I used steam-a-seam to secure it to the opening and then re-top stitched over the original top stitching of the placket opening.
Then, I just fringed the sleeve "hems." Not sure how I like that part, but I'll try it. If I change my mind, I'll just cut off the fringed edge and put in a small hem.
Great jacket. I love plaid. It's pronbably the perfect weight for your hot climate. Nice sewing!
ReplyDeleteI love that fringe finish! Fantastic jacket, great work, as always!
ReplyDeleteI relly like it. And the fringe is a nice touch. I also had alook at your tops in your last post. They are great. I'd love to be able to wear those but I'm too busty.(Sigh).I have to be so careful to not wear anything boxy. It's a pain int he ----!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! Thanks for the offer of the MOP buttons...I spent the last few days organizing about a million vintage buttons that were in the drawer of the treadle sewing machine I bought and I found that I had about 5 whole sets of MOP buttons! xoxo-Michelle
