Du Barry 5766 - Revised Sleeve Pattern

The top sleeve in the photo is my revised sleeve.  The lower sleeve shows how I got to the revised sleeve.  The sleeve in the DuBarry pattern just had too.much.ease.  I looked back at the pattern photo and instructions to see if the sleeve was to have gathers at the cap.  Not so.  I have NO CLUE how those sewists back in the 40's managed to get this sleeve without puckers or gathers.

I went to the Fashion Incubator knowing I remembered a post about sleeve cap ease.  I did a few searches and then found the Design Loft Blog about removing sleeve cap ease.  She has a couple of posts about cap ease.  It was very helpful to me.

I cut a new pattern based on recommendations from both blogs and sewed it into my muslin.  MUCH BETTER and, yes, I could still move my arm around.

That said, I am now ready to cut the fashion fabric, which is the fabric in the above photo.  It is a linen type blend that has been in the stash for ???--a while.  It is a nice teal color with quite a bit of drape.  I hope not too much drape.  It does ravel so I hope that doesn't prove to be a great problem with the waist inserts.

In the meantime, I have cut and made a jalie cardigan that was much too tight, so I have now cut a larger size and I've cut a Kwik Sew tee from some waffle weave knit I picked up last week.  I may get to sew some tomorrow.
