I finished this baby afghan this week. I generally crochet rather than knit the baby blankets because the crochet goes so much faster. I found this lovely pattern on the onelittlerayndrop blog which I found while looking through options at Crochet Pattern Central. I used acrylic yarn (A Pound of Love yarn) because that's what I had on hand, but I plan to crochet the next one with cotton as the one shown on her blog.
This afghan came to be as I was knitting a summer shell for myself while waiting for my DH at his recent doctor's appointment. One of the newer young nurses commented on how wonderful it was to be able to knit. We had a short conversation and she ask if I did any work to sell. I told her that selling was not really my thing. More conversation, and I learned that she was pregnant with her 2nd child - a girl. So.....I agreed to crochet a blanket and give her an option to purchase (yes, v.e.r.y. reasonably). If she doesn't like or want it, I always have several baby showers throughout the year, so it will definitely find a loving home whether she purchases or not.
On the "HOT" front. Our consecutive triple digit 40-day wave was broken last Saturday. Only reached an official 99 degrees and triple digits resumed Sunday and the
I was able to sew a little yesterday. I'm working on Butterick 5646 (lower right hand corner - green version), and with a little luck, I just might finish it tomorrow.
That is a pretty baby blankie. I love to crochet. And knit. I don't know how people survive that intense heat. MI had temps in the high 90s and a couple of 100s and it was just miserable.
ReplyDeletePretty! I doubt she'll be able to resist buying it!
ReplyDeleteOur heat is better this week. One morning we actually had temps in the upper 60s when we came downstairs! Hope it stays gone!
Can't believe you're doing anything with yarn n this heat, but if it generates enthusiasm, it's good.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for leaving me a message. i'm so glad you enjoyed the pattern. i love the pink color you chose.
ReplyDeleteVery cute baby afghan!
ReplyDeleteLove the pink!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping you could help answer a quick question about the shell border. The instructions are:
ReplyDeleteCh 3, dc in same space 2 times, skip next 2 stitches, sl st in next stitch.
The part I am confused about is the "dc in same space". That is the hole beneath the stitch right? Then I skip 2 stitches and sl st in the next stitch. I just need clarification on the "space" part of the directions. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much! Love this blankey! Pink is next :)
Hi Becky, it's been a while since I've done one of these. You are correct that you DC in the hole beneath the 3 chain. since the the 3 chain is counted as a DC, that makes 2 DC in same space/hole. Going back to the pattern, you have 4DC making up the shell, then skip 2 stitches and sl st and keep on going. Hope that is clear.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the quick reply! I have one more question, I hope I'm not making this too confusing!
DeleteAfter I do the sl st, when I go back to the first part of the instructions, it says to ch 3 then do in the same spot...is the same spot the st where I did the sl st, or the space below? I think I might justi be making this harder than it should be haha
Yes, that is correct. Sorry it took a while to get back to you.
