Sewing machines have been a bit quiet here this summer. Once again, it's been more than a month since my last post. I've done a few minor alterations on a few things.
* Hemmed several pair of RTW workout shorts. I buy the cotton or cotton/poly knit shorts from the boys section of Walmart or Target. I buy the XL and they work great for my 1-2 hours 3X a week at the gym. They are generally right around mid-knee on me, which bothers me, so I cut off the inch or so and hem.
* Made a couple of purchased long sleeved shirts into short sleeved shirts for my Sis and myself. Found linen shirts on sale that was too good to pass up, but who want's long sleeves in Texas summer heat?? Neither of us.
A pair of Silhouette Yoga pants are waiting a hem so they can be worn. These are RPL Ponte so they will be worn more in the fall; therefore, they have been languishing on the cutting table without a hem. Linen pants and capris are still more comfortable in our temperatures.
Have the Katherine Tilton vest almost complete. Saphroni, the dress form, is wearing it now while it awaits completion.
I purchased this pattern, never really expecting to make it up. However, I've seen some really cute versions out there in blog land. I had picked up 2 linen dresses some time ago at the thrift shop - one yellow, one blue. Both were too small, but they looked like new and the price was marked 50% off making them each around $4. So, I purchased them thinking I'd use the fabric. So, that fabric is what I used for the vest. I've toyed with the idea of overdying it when it's completed as well as the idea of doing some paint sponge stamping (in lieu of the dying). I picked up some fabric paint today, and I will do some testing before I make any decision. OR, I may just leave it as is. No decisions yet.
I picked up some knitting that has been "sitting" for probably a year. The shell is "more finished" than not; I'm to the more fidley stitches in pattern, and my concentration has to be good to keep in pattern. Lately I've just wanted "mindless stockinette stitch" things on my my needles - thus my community service knit chemo caps have increased in numbers.
Style Arc patterns were ordered today. I like this month's free pattern, so I picked up a couple that had been on my wish list. Of course, I still have a couple of Style Arc's from previous orders that are still waiting to be cut and sewn. Yep, I need to get busy............
Lots of plans and irons in the fire, but not much follow through just yet. Maybe if we ever get some cooler weather, the mojo will improve.

Hi Linda. I think you're a riot! i hope you don't mind me saying that. I think I have the opposite problem you have. Instead of not being able to finish anything, I finish too many. Honestly, lately, I've been thinking that I'm much too obssessed with sewing for a woman my age. It's all I want to do, all I think about, all I shop for ,all I buy!!! I even recently bought two size 3X tops inending to use the fabrics as if my stash isn't huge enough.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. Here in New Brunswick, Canada our temps are perfect for fall (about 20 degrees Celsius but I'm not sure what that is in Fahrenheit)and the leaves are starting to change colours. We're very lucky.
Diana, don't mind at all! My best friend sewing buddy laughs at my "struggles" all the time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment on my Fabric Mart entry. Hope your knitting is going well!
