Slow Motion

Sewing is happening here.  Most of my time has been spent with more community service sewing.  I did finish a linen dress that I cut out last summer--one of the Tilton dresses.  I wore it today, but didn't get a photo.  I have a couple of things I need to photo and get up here on the blog.  I keep telling myself I will get to it.  All in due time.  Seems like I'm moving in slow motion these days.

I'm now pondering how to cut this cotton print.  It will be a top of some sort.  Perhaps I'll have an epiphany if I keep seeing in draped over Saphroni.  Probably need to peruse some of the pattern stash for pattern ideas.  Any suggestions?

  1. Lovely print! My local nursing home has patients completing bibs and catheter covers. I'm going through my cotton fabrics for them and would love to get involved.

  4. Slow motion is still motion, I say. :) As for the print, can you tell us the size of the pattern repeat? And is the print placed on the bias or is that just the way it's draped. Oh, the fabric is very pretty. Hope you have a nice holiday weekend.

  5. Hi Sandra, the print is a diagonal square (shaped as a diamond on the straight of grain). I didn't measure, but each block is approximately 12" square. Was going to sew this weekend, but the sewing mood is not very strong.

  6. Linda, if you want to make a top, I suggest a simple shape with one main front & back pieces and cut-on sleeves like the Shapes Four Good Measure top. The Shapes Six Sense Skirt would be fun, taking advantage of the motifs. I'm thinking of making a tunic out of that one for fall to wear over knit long sleeve tops and skinny pants. You can see those on my Flickr album of Shapes garments https://www.flickr.com/photos/terrihk/sets/72157616436913204

    1. Terri, thanks for the insight and suggestions on using this fabric for a top. Hadn't thought about a skirt at all, but the Six Sense would be interesting. I may not get to the fabric anytime soon, however, as my time has been overtaken with other things for now.
