I decided to try out that Simplicity (#4074) pattern that I had purchased twice. (See previous post). The top, view E, reminded me somewhat of the Tea Garden T by Textile Studios. I LOVE that T, but it is a bit overwhelming to cut and match sewing marks since it is really just one pattern piece with underarm gussets. I thought perhaps this would be a nice alternative as the neckline is similar.
I found some cotton knit in the stash. The blue flowers in the print matched the dyed linen, so I thought, hmm--this might be a new summer outfit. An outfit I really need--casual capri set. In a few hours I had a top that still needs to be hemmed (I'll do it on the coverstitch machine) and a pair of Louise Cutting one seam capris.
I like the fit of the top. It curves through the waist area but not too tight. I used a straight size 16. I didn't move the shoulder seams for a forward shoulder--I will alter about 3/8" next time. I chose View E, but I wanted to make sleeveless. the other view from the same pattern finished the sleeveless top with a bias strip. I decided to just serge and turn under 1/4" and top stitch. Hopefully, it won't stretch out over time.
I think I like it! I see more of these tops in my future!
It looks very cool and crisp for hot days and nights. Looks like a winner!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't get any better than a new pair of one seams and a cool cotton knit top that you can live in when the temperature goes sky high. I better get to sewing as I desperately need some warm weather gear.It looks as if you are getting yours all sewn up-nice summer outfit you have posted! mssewcrazy
ReplyDeleteOh so pretty and such a great fit.Sometimes its nice to be able to make something that's easy and that you can finish quickly isn't it.
ReplyDeleteYour top is very pretty and the fit is nice. Very flattering. I have that pattern in my stash and I need nice sleeveless tops, so I think I will pull it out. I also am guilty of buying the same pattern or sewing magazine twice. I pass them on to other sewing guild members.
