Our Beloved Post Oak Tree

We awoke to this scene this morning. Our wonderful post oak tree fell last night. Thankfully, the house was spared any damage. It has been estimated by arborists to be around 100 years old. It has been struck by lightening twice that we know of. It's provided almost complete shade for one side of the house. We will miss it!

  1. Oh, no! That is a terrible sight. We lost two major trees a few years ago in a huge storm. One just grazed the front of the house, knocking off the window box, but thank goodness nothing else. I am SO glad your house was spared, but a shame to see the tree fall.

  2. what a shame! But thank goodness it didn't hit the house! It would have been awful if there had been damage or someone had been hurt!

Ten years ago we lost a large oak in the same manner and I thought the stump would be there forever. A couple of men came around with heavy equipment that travel about grinding stumps and dh had them remove a couple left from pines in the front yard that we recently cut as one was leaning and we were afraid they would fall on the house in a wind storm. Thankfully I came home before they left and made dh have them get the old oak stump as well which he insisted was close to rotting (wasn't).It was close to their quitting time and our place was the last for the day so they agreed to do it for $40 more dollars probably the price of their dinner since dh was being resistant to shell out more money and we let them pet and meet our horses which they considered great fun and entertainment. I miss the tree but thought I would live with that big ugly stump forever so was really happy to see it gone.Thank you beloved horses for entertaining them so well. I am glad your tree missed your home-several here have had trees fall on their houses in windstorms. It seems that there is more of this type stuff happening in our area the last few years than normal-very scary and dagerous. mssewcrazy
