In answer to some of the recent comments/questions I offer:
The snow: It was a record for us here in the DFW area. Being a native Texan of this area, I had NEVER seen that much snow here! As a result, we have some tree and scrub clean-up to do. Their branches had never held that much snow! It left almost as quickly as it came. Within about 3 days, all we had left was some patches in shaded areas.
The mailbox: We can continue to have brick mailbox stands here. So we will have one built as soon as the ground dries out enough for the concrete base to be poured. More rain is predicted for this evening and tomorrow and possible snow flurries to come. In the meantime, we have a temporary box (one atop a wooden post for now) out on the road and are receiving mail again. (I have to get mail---I've ordered Vogue patterns!)
The foot surgery: Someone asked about the type of surgery I had for bunions. It's called "Austin-Akin bunionectomy with screw fixation." The doctor removed some bone and the bump and repositions the bone and uses a screw fixation to secure it. On my right foot, the little toe was repositioned with some wires to hold it straight so that it wasn't digging into the next toe. On the left foot, there was a bunion on the outside of the little toe that was fixed with bone straightened. I go back to the doctor in a few days, and I think he will release me.
I had a question about what pattern I was using for the fuzzy neck scarf and no, it's not finished--I ran out of yarn and had to get more. I didn't use a pattern. I cast on about 22 stitches on probably about a size 8 needle. I gently decreased on each end after a few inches to about 10 stitches. Just using the garter stitch back and forth. When I get it about 10" from the length I like, I'll begin increasing stitches so that it will, hopefully, match on each end. Very scientific, huh? I've got about 5 projects going right now. I think I have knitting ADD--but they eventually do get finished......
Still kinda in a sewing slump, but I see that I'm not the only one as I read blogs. Maybe it's the let down after the holidays..............
Glad to hear that your feet are healing up, and your doctor will release you soon. I hope you get very good news at your dr. visit!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet you are beyond happy to have both surgeries over and done with - soon you will be on two new feet with pretty summer shoes. I am such a chicken-my hat's off to you for getting through this like such a brave one.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the knitting directions for the scarf. I will hunt for some yarn when I shop again. My friend has been letting her elderly mother teach her so we can try this. I have been wanting one of those handknitted scarves for the longest. It seems like we too have had more winter than ever before and the cute scarves are an attractive way to add a touch of warmth. Your scarf looked just like what I had in mind. mssewcrazy
