the pictures are still in the camera waiting to be saved, rotated and cropped. It's the shell of the new Louise Cutting pattern. I have 3 of them now. And I promise I will get them posted to share with you.
I came down with a stomach bug on Saturday and am just now getting back on my feet.
BUT, today, my recent E-bay purchased arrived. It's the cookbook pictured above. A while back, there was an article at Pattern Review about using a basic pattern with various modifications. The writer, illustrated her point early on in the article by explaining how she always referred back to a cake recipe from this cookbook, the "Quick Plain Cake." It became her "go to recipe" for just about every occasion--birthdays, kids' school activities, etc. She said that with just a change of "flavorings" she could adapt the recipe easily. In her article, she gave the Quick Plain Cake recipe, and I copied it and filed it away for future use.
I would link you to that post, but since I am not a "Friend" of Pattern Review, I cannot access the archive articles.
Finally, about a week ago, I decided to make the cake. I had some blueberries that I needed to use, so I added them to the mixture, poured into a bundt pan and DH loved it (and he's not much of a sweet eater).
It was then I decided I wanted my own copy of this book. So, first to Amazon--there were some later reprints, but I wanted the 1940's era version. On to E-bay and there was a copy for sale with about one day left on the auction. I put in my high bid and figured I would get outbid--but not so....
AND, it arrived today. It has a handwritten recipe in the front cover. It appears to have been loved and well used, but well taken care of. It has a bit of a musty smell, but that's OK with me--reminds me of some of my Granny's things. Oh, copyright on this one is 1941.
I look forward to perusing this lovely little treasure and testing some of the many recipes noted in its 600+ pages.
A shell is about my favorite thing in the world to wear under jackets and shirts - now why do I feel another pattern will be coming here to live when the pictures go up. I am convinced it is not possible to buy one that is worth bringing home in rtw.
ReplyDeleteThe cook book looks like a treasure as well.I had never heard of this particular one. There's no telling what you will cook up from this one. mssewcrazy
