Maggie's Blouse by Peggy Sagers - TAM #9

Pattern 611, named Maggie's Blouse is a winner for me.  I had made a muslin of this pattern several months ago and originally cut a size 2.  It was too small, as least to my liking.  I made another quick and dirty muslin  in a size 3 that I found much more comfortable.  EXCEPT, I felt the sleeves were too big--much too roomy for my preference.  So, I managed to put the size 2 sleeve in the size 3 blouse, and it worked.  The armhole was big enough to fit the sleeve in with very minor easing.  This is a two piece sleeve which I like since it fits my arm better.  It curves where my arm curves.

Fabric is a raw silk and definitely has slubs.  I've had this fabric for several years having a hard time deciding what I wanted to make with it.  I was thinking of using a linen for this pattern and then remembered this pink silk and pulled it out of one of the stash bins.  In response to Martha's comment in the last post, I use silk "noil" and "raw silk" interchangeably (which may be wrong).  I need to look that up somewhere.

I washed/dried the fabric because I plan to wash the blouse.  If you read back on my blog, you will find that for the most part "if it doesn't wash, I don't wear."

The pattern has vertical darts in the back, but I chose not to sew them.  Other than the change in the sleeve  mentioned above, I think the only other alteration I made was to lower the horizontal dart a bit.

I love the collar on this blouse and plan to make it again soon.

Thanks for the good wishes for my pup dog.

  4. Glorious color and very pretty blouse. I find Silhouette patterns to have large sleeves also. It just shows that each designer has a personal fit preference.
