Vogue 8546 (OOP)

I saw this wonderful jacket made up on Martha's Blog.  She writes on her blog that she was inspired by someone else (you can click on that link from her blog).  Both of the finished jackets are just beautiful.  I HAD to have that pattern and make up my own version.

I immediately clicked over to EBay, and as luck would have it, there were several listed.  Usually, I'm not that lucky.  I chose to bid on the cheapest one. and shortly, it was on it's way to me.

IT HAS ARRIVED.

I really want to make a double cloth version since I (like Martha) don't plan to line it.  I almost purchased a fabric online and then caught myself.  I really need to work up a wearable muslin before I spend a nice sum on beautiful double cloth fabric.  What did I have in the stash?  I kept pondering.

Lining is not a requirement for this one as I want a jacket/coat to wear as a second layer when needed.  Plus,  we seldom have more that 2 really cold days in my part of the country.  We *may* have snow one day (very seldom do we ever get snow) and then the next day it hits 70 degrees.  That has happened several times in the month of February during my lifetime here.

I finally remembered today that I had some teal wool that I've had for a couple of years.  It was gifted to me.  I had washed/dryed (fulled) the fabric and I was happy with the result.  Did I have enough?  Well, today, when I returned from my errands, I found it in one of my storage tubs.  Yep, have more than enough.  Woo Hoo!

I decided to fluff it up a bit in the dryer with a damp towel.  It's "fluffing" as I type.  I do have to say, today is not a good day to be touching wool.  We already have tied the record for temp today--86 and I think we are expected to see 89 before the day is over.  The A/C has been kicking on today.

Motivation to cut it may not hit me until next week when the temps are promised to be cooler.

P.S.  For my sewing friends dealing with the aftermath of Sandy.  My heart goes out to all who endured this storm.  I can imagine being without power for days and having a flooded lower floor of the house. (the great ice storm in the DFW area in 78 or 79).  BUT, what we dealt with was minor considering the heavy devastation and personal losses that so many of you are experiencing.

My soapbox:  Electric crews from our areas headed out to the northeast this week.  I hope the powers that be in the states there have/will let them in to help.  Texas is a right-to-work state (non-union) and I understand, at least in NJ, the Alabama crews are being cursed and turned away because they are non-union workers. (The news audio/video is awful.) Will somebody take charge and let these crews in?  People NEED ELECTRICITY!

I know most of the crews from here have left their families for 2 weeks to go help and are willing to work long hours to help restore some bit of normalcy for folks who so desperately need it.

Off the box now.

  2. Well, how fun to see my blog post on this patterned has inspired you to, not only acquire this fun little pattern, but be in the process of making it!

Can't wait to see your version. The fabric sounds yummy. And I hear you about cold weather. I see more single-layer jackets in my future.
