One of the members of my sewing guild decided to present a demo of the Bias Top featured in the Threads Magazine Issue 143. I had remembered reading something about an error in the pattern measurements in a later issue of Threads. I pulled my old issues around that time and found the correction in measurements noted in Issue 144 and on the Threads Website.
I sent the corrections to my guild friend.
Last week was the meeting and my friend's experience with this top. She had tried the top as printed in the original article and found, as others had, that the top was too small. Then she made one with the revised instruction and found the top too big. So............frustrated, she complained to her engineer husband. She explained the problem to him; he came up with the idea of taking the hip measurement and multiplying that number by .707. For her, the revised measurement--worked.
Excited to try this, yesterday I pulled out some expendable rayon challis from the stash. This fabric was gifted to me and is a wonderful hand, but the colors are not me. I gave the pattern a whirl with my friend's revised formula. Hmm.......too small/tight for me. Maybe I messed up the calculation somehow.
So, I tried the revised (corrected) Threads formula. It is too big to wear as a 'top.' It could be considered an over sized tunic. Very comfy. Hmm. So it is now it will be a new sleep shirt. Win! This afternoon I will finish the neckline with a bias binding,, hem the sleeves and shirt.
I will play with the sizes of the squares and come up with one that suits what I feel is "just right" for me. I do love this idea and think it can become a fun summer top,
