In Between Yard Work and Gardening.....

I have been sewing some muslins.

I traced the Louise cutting Stars in Heaven tunic. I started with a size M and made up a quick and dirty. I used some "not so drapey" poly blend. I didn't like it. In addition to the bad fabric, I decided I might need to try a size SM. Can't show you the size M as it already went to the trash bin. So, back to the tracing table. The following day, I cut and sewed up a nice, drapey rayon muslin in the size SM. I still wasn't in love. I think it's the extra fabric in the armhole area--which is the style of the pattern, it just didn't work for me. Can't show you a pic of that one either as I took it to my sewing buddy and she is going to use it as a guide to alter the pattern for herself. You see, we purchased the same pattern at the M. Pullen show. Just take my word, I love the "hanger look" but I don't like the look on me.

I then hit paydirt with a wearable muslin of the the Louise Cutting Ebb top. I really like that one! I do have a photo, but haven't gotten it from the camera yet. Promise to do that so you can see. I sewed a straight size M and love it.

Then I tried the Simplicity Cardi-wrap in a little too heavy double knit. Again, this was just a muslin to check the fit and the look. I cut a size M and decided I needed a bit more room across the back shoulder, plus the side seams were not hanging straight. Wouldn't you know it, the size of the pattern I had only went up to a size M. So, while the Simplicity patterns were on sale this week, I picked it up in the next larger size which includes the size L. I haven't had a chance to cut and sew another muslin. Maybe tomorrow. I did like the look of the pattern.

In addition to that pattern, I purchased the others you see in this photo and the Vogue magazine.

I guess I'm in the "pattern buying mood" as I'm expecting UPS delivery tomorrow from Fabric.com of two Sewing Workshop patterns, the Plaza Pant and the Liberty Shirt and one Jalie, the cardi-jacket (not sure of the name now) similar to the Simplicity cardi-wrap. Also, today I ordered the Vionet book by Kirke. Her bias draping facinates me. It will, hopefully, be here next week as I ordered from Amazon and took the supersaver free shipping option.

The heat is on here even through summer isn't officially here until Monday, June 21. We have been in the high 90's as in 97, 98 degrees. Next week they are predicting 5 days straight at 100 or more. Ugh! Too hot for yard work, more time for sewing in the A/C sewing room, ya think?

I'll try not to be gone for 3 weeks before the next post!

  1. I have issues with Louise Cuttings patterns too. Some of the design lines are just not good for my body even though she promises it will look good on everybody. The keepers are gold. But I won't get on the auto-ship list because the ones that don't look good are really really bad. Not her draughtmanship or instructions, just bad with my 5'3" pear-shaped body.
