The Liberty Shirt

Here is the first go at the Sewing Workshop Liberty Shirt. Overall, I'm pleased. I cut and sewed the size medium with no alternations. The sleeves are definitely too long. As you may be able to see in the photo, I have my left one folded up the length of the "cuff." I have already taken the length from my pattern piece.

This fabric if a bit thick/heavy. It is a 50/50 Rayon/cotton. I think it came from one of my ASG "fabric swaps" but I couldn't swear to it. It is a good weight for a jacket.

After studying the top on me and the photos I took, I think I also may need to shorten the shoulder seam a bit. I almost seem to be "swallowed up" in it. I'll study it a bit more and decide. I definitely will make this up--probably in a lighter/blouse weight. I also want to make it up in a knit as Shams and one other (sorry I can't remember now who it was) person has done--one with no collar or center front seam.

I love the hemlines.

Not sure what is next on my plate. I've got lots of yard work ahead of me. Thankfully, we got some rain on Friday so that means lots of mowing waiting for me!

  1. Nice shirt/jacket. Lots more fun sewing that than moving the yard!

  2. Wow, I don't know what the shirt looks like on you, but from my monitor there is a lovely butterfly shape coming through. I do think the blouse looks good on you.

  3. I like it! I also think you're right about the shoulder, I agree that it appears a little long. Since it's a jacket, have you considered a small shoulder pad just to fill the area slightly. I need to go ahead and make this one up!
