Thrift Find and Altered

I thought I had taken a "before" photo, but I guess not as I can't find it.  This came home as a $4 beige XL linen/cotton dress. I didn't have anything specifically in mind for this or the fabric.  The fabric felt nice so that's the main reason it came home with me.

I tried the dress on, and I'm not sure in what world it was labeled an XL.  Perhaps that is why it made it to the thrift store in really good condition.  I washed/dryed it to see if there would be more shrinkage.  Hmm, didn't seem to be.  I took out the sleeves and pinned the side seams in for a reasonable fit for me.  Hmm--not bad.  I took in the sleeve seams as much as I took in the side seams.

Beige makes me look all washed out, so I pulled out my small box of dyes I had.  Pulled out the Dylon denim blue.  So, out came the rubbermaid tub, and the dye job was "ON."

The top stitching thread was apparently poly, but I actually like the fact that it didn't take the dye.  The lines at the hem are pin tucks.  I didn't have to alter the hem at all.  Of course, the buttons didn't take any dye either.

The result is a very cool summer dress.  It's already been worn and passed the "comfy" test. Some days I get lucky while thrifting.  I ended up at the thrift store that day because I was dropping off about 3 bags of sewing patterns.  I still have patterns to sift through and make another donation.
