Silhouette #211 Nina's Top

On one of Peggy's webcasts, she was wearing a variation of Nina's top pattern as a longer version.  I've made and wear the original version as pictured on the pattern envelope.  However, I liked the look of the longer version.  I didn't really want the back longer, but the front extended.

I picked up the sweater knit fabric at J's just to test out this pattern in a longer front version.  I really wanted fabric in another color (from black), but the red and the purple I found did not have enough yardage left on the bolt.  Enter the black with the silver sparkles.  As I remember, the fabric was already on sale, so the coupon wasn't necessary.

I like the look of the end result:

Below is the alteration to the pattern.  I just slit the front pattern piece in two places and spread.  No science here.  I was just winging it and hoping for the best. Hopefully, you can see what I did in the photo.

With that change, I did have to lengthen the front band.  I just measured the length and cut the band accordingly.  I didn't make a new pattern piece for the band.

I've worn this several times since I finished (during my time away from blogging) it.  Occasionally, the silver threads feel a bit "itchy."  Some days I don't even feel the "itchy" and some days I do.  When I do, I simply put this one back on the hanger and choose another option from the closet.

I will probably use this altered pattern again--  When I find the "right" sweater knit.  I do enjoy seeing the variations Peggy comes up with for using her patterns.

On another subject:  I've been sifting through some of my patterns in an attempt to come up with a "list" what I want/need to sew to for my somewhat lighter body.  I definitely need to pull out a couple of the TNTs to alter.  All in due time, but I am getting anxious.  Just not enough hours in the day right now.

  1. I love that pattern, have that pattern. Your sparkley knit cardi looks super. Those are easy to wear slip-ons.

  2. You've done a lovely job on this cardi. I hope you have more fun with the next versions you make, cause I can see this pattern will be a TNT.
