Saturday Snip-its

Not too much has been going on here in the sewing room.  Some dribs and drabs here and there.  I finally hemmed a pair of Silhouette yoga pants that had been finished (except for that) for MONTHS. Oh, I have completed some of my community service sewing for my ASG Neighborhood group donations.

I cleaned the sewing room, and I can now walk through it safely. OSHA would be proud of me if they inspected sewing rooms.  No cords or fabric stacks to trip over.  I know, once I get started again, it will go back to the way it was.

I've pulled some linen/linen blends from some of my storage boxes in an effort to get inspired for spring/summer sewing.  We have very little spring and lots of summer.  I have cut a black linen pair of Louise Cutting One seam pants that are sitting "at the ready" for the sewing machine.  I've about worn out the pair I've had for a couple of years. I wear them quite a bit during the summer.

I've also cut the Louise Cutting Relax a Little skirt in a deep green linen blend.  It's sitting "at the ready" with the black pants waiting its turn at the sewing machine.  I have enough of the green to sew a top; I just haven't yet decided what pattern to use.

The oak trees are beginning to bud out here.  The pecan trees?  not yet.  My Granny always said that mother nature would not fool a pecan tree into budding out.  A pecan will always wait until AFTER the last freeze.  My experience with our pecan trees has proven Granny knew what she was talking about.  Our temps are very confusing for the plants.  We have 80 degrees one day and 25 degrees just a few days later.  Lots of my bulbs began to bloom and then got hit with a freeze.  Not pretty!

I need to begin mowing.  Lots of winter weeds have popped up in the yard.  I'll probably check the Kubota tomorrow to see if it will start after it's winter hibernation.  It will likely need a jump, and that's OK.

Something I'm not looking forward to is the scheduled Thursday surgery for my Rottweiler, Onyx.  About two years ago, she busted her left hind leg ACL and have to have repair surgery.  It is not uncommon if the ACL in one leg goes, the other is likely to break also.  Well, it has - almost two years later.  We have been through this with previous Rottie's.  One had both go within about a year of each other; the other only had one surgery; the other leg held.

Anyhow, it's what we do.  Here she is about two years ago a day or so after we brought her home. Don't you think the duck tape "footie" is stylish?

And it takes about 6 months for the hair to completely return so that one can't tell she ever had been shaved.  Poor baby.

Maybe tomorrow I sew something................or not.

  1. Well, you are definitely poised to return to the sewing room! BTW, do you wash your black linen pants?

    1. Yes, I do wash them. May wear them out faster, but I just prefer washing to dry cleaning.

  3. A clean sewing room ~ such a great feeling, isn't it? I might have to take a leaf out of your busy book and give mine a little attention. Good luck for Onyx on Thursday .. .J

  5. I hadn't realized SD weather extended all the way to Texas!. I can never get excited about spring sewing because spring is typically 1 week long. We've also been going through those 80 today 20 tomorrow temps. Grass and strawberries are are up but the rest of the plants know better.

  6. Just give your baby a lot of kisses over the next few days. Breaks my heart :( Now a little something to make you smile, maybe a bit. Some years ago I had 2 cats and 1 dog. One of my cats was the most beautiful Siamese. My aunt found him at a road side park in Jasper, TX. He was a warrior and loved to fight. I had to take him to the vet and have his head shaved in order to administer some antibiotic cream. My dog had somehow gotten fleas and had bites on her hip. Another shaving for administering cream. My other cat, a Siamese mix, had a small tumor on her side that had to be removed so she had been shaved as well. So each had been shaved in a different area. During that time, we were having some work done in the house. At the end of the day, one of the workers asked me about the animals. I told him the story. He replied, "I was a little worried that you might be doing experiments in the basement!!" Hope you're having a great day. BTW, we drove through East Texas on Friday evening and went through a horrible storm. We had to pull off the road twice due to hail. To make matters a little worse, we were pulling a trailer. I said a lot of Thank you Lords once we got to Texarkana!!!

    1. Rhonda, that is so funny! I thought maybe you were going to say they didn't recognize each other. lol Glad you made it through the storm. We have really had some strange weather--even for Texas. Friday evening here - lots of thunder, but not lots of rain and no hail, thankgoodness.
