Butterick 5678 (modified) Finally Makes the Finished Category

Golly, it was mid-February when I began talking about my my version of Butterick 5678 using Rhonda's instructions for the raised neckline version.  The completion was put on the back burner while I worked on the Silhouette jacket sew-a-long.

It's all finished; I completed it today.  All that was left to do was to decide on the hem, hem the sleeves and sew the buttons and buttonholes.  You can see I opted to go with a straight hem rather than the shirt tail hem, and the 3/4 length sleeve.  I also stayed with the yellow buttons as I had indicated in the previous post.

I really like it; I love how the fit feels.  I'll definitely make this a "go to" pattern for many more blouses with  many more options.  It was worth the 2 or 3 muslins to perfect the fit.  I think it will look good with white capris (which are already in the closet).

It has been a full week since I have been able to spend any real time in the sewing room.  Since it is upstairs and Onyx cannot use the stairs, I stayed fairly close to her to monitor her first week of recovery.  About this time last week, her surgery was complete and the Vet Techs were bandaging her leg and calling me to report that everything went as planned with the ACL reconstruction.  I expected it to go well, but  us Moms always worry.

The first photo below shows her first day home (Friday) with her tiger leg wrap.  I didn't leave the cone on her all the time.  When she was determined to try to take off the bandage and lick, lick, lick I would put it on.  When I could stay with her (TV watching in the evenings and laptop time) I could remind her not to lick/chew and she would generally quit.  Good girl!  The color is so off in this photo as I took it in the evening with the flash; she even looks navy blue!

We are a full week out, and she has figured how to get on the couch with one good leg and one bandaged leg.  I can tell she is feeling better as she is eating better and is definitely more animated.  The pink camo bandage was put on this past Monday, and we go back tomorrow for another check up.

I feel better when she feels better!

Next up to finish is this OOP New Look (the fake wrap dress).  Maybe I'll have something else to show you in a day or so.

Yes, I still have the two Cutting Line Designs' patterns cut and ready to sew.  I'm waiting for the mojo for those two to strike.

  4. This is wonderful. With my neck diminishing daily due to arthritic changes, I avoid collared blouse patterns but I love how you changed the neckline on this. The fit is absolutely perfect and I can see you using it as a jacket too, over a lightweight, sleeveless summer dress. I agree that it should look perfect with white capris. There is something about aqua and white that just says summer. Fabulous job. I have added the pattern to my wish list. Poor puppy. How long will the cast be on?
