This pant had a flat waist band in the front with elastic in the back. Since mine had elastic all the way around, I had to improvise. I traced the pocket shape onto pattern paper, added seam allowances and rather than cut it all the way to the cut edge of the waist of the pants which would have been too much bulk when I folded it over, I simply squared it off where it would fall just below the stitching of the fold over portion of the the band. I hope this makes some sense. Anyway here's the pattern piece I used.
I then used that same pattern to cut a "facing" that finished off the curved opening of the pocket.
Oh, and that Ottobre 2/2007 you see in the upper corner of the first photo--I'm going to try out the capri pant. I have it traced, and the fabric cut, but probably won't get to sewing them up until later in the week.
Today is our neighborhood ASG meeting, and I'm doing a demo on sewing zippers.
