JIP - Jacket in Progress

I pulled out this fabric out of the stash this a.m. I remember purchasing it from C&C fabrics in Dallas. I think I paid $3 or $4/yd for it. I thought it would make a fun jacket to wear with jeans or black slacks. I guess it is considered a tapesty or something close. It does RAVEL!!!

Trying to think through this project, I decided to fuse black tricot interfacing to the fabric before I cut in hopes of cutting down on the ravel problems. "Block fusing" with a regular iron is a slow process. I did it in short pieces. I laid out pattern pieces on the fabric for one length of fabric, cut that from the full yardage and fused that portion. I think I got it done in 3 sections. I probably wasted some fabric this way, but I had plenty of fabric for the jacket, so I didn't worry much about that. Usually I'm very frugal with fabric, but I went for what I considered the "easier out" on this one.

Here is one of the sleeve sections with the fused interfacing:

The sleeves are lined so I've got to find appropriate black lining fabric in the stash. I think I have some black rayon ambiance. I sewed on it until about 3:30 this afternoon, and I'm tired. The fusing, cutting part took quite a bit of time. So, I am to the "sleeves" now and they will wait until probably tomorrow when I'm a bit more rested. So, far the project has gone pretty smooth, and I don't want to force it when I'm tired.

This is a Nancy Zieman pattern and she has written the instructions with the 10-20-30 minutes to sew approach. Sewing the sleeves starts a new section so this was a good place to stop for the day.

Stay tuned!

Love the jacket and the fabric choice- I must be on the same wave length as I was thinking when I shop again I must buy some tricot interfacing and have also been thinking about buying some tapestry or home dec type fabric to make a jacket when the weather cools.
The blue dyed fabrics worked out great-that's a shade I often pick when I have the choice. mssewcrazy
