Peggy Sagers' Georgio Top
Sorry about the blurry photo. This fabric pattern doesn't excite me, but I'm loving the fit of this pattern. This fabric is rayon/lycra and feels great. It's the print. It's much too busy for me and does nothing for this pattern.
The fabric is a Fabric Mart purchase during one of the 30% off sales. I purchased enough for a dress (with no pattern in mind) but when I saw the fabric in person, I decided it would be best used for "wearable muslins." For that, it fit the bill because I will wear this with jeans to the grocery store and errands around here.
It is very comfy. I started out with a 5W in Peggy's sizing knowing I would probably take it in a bit on the sides. In this case, I put the measuring tape around my bust and added about 3" if I recall correctly (I'm not a big fan of negative ease). That number put me into that size.
I sewed the top together on the sewing machine with a 3.5 stitch length. I didn't want to start with the serger if I had to rip anything. First try on showed me that I wanted more side shaping. Peggy does say in her instructions to try on before hemming to determine if more shaping is needed/wanted and instructs to take in as desired.
I started right at the curve of the underarm and ended up taking about an additional 1" at waist and high hip tapering back out the the original 3/8" seam near the lower hip area to leave the flair with lots of ease and swing. So what's that? a total of 4" nipped in? 2" on each side.
In this photo, the hem is not sewn for the garment or the sleeves, and the neck here is just turned under but not sewn down.
I will finish this one and wear it, as I stated, with jeans. I'll then do some stash diving to come up with a solid or a more likable print. In the meantime, I probably won't count this one as an "official" TAM--at least not right now.

Glad you have nailed the fit on this top! Maybe with a plain vest on top you may feel as if it is toned down more, and get further wear out of it. Looking forward to the next one that you whip up...
ReplyDeleteI emailed Peggy with my measurements and sizing and she said to make a size 2 which is what told her looked like what I should start with. I had to pre-wash my knits but should have the pattern cut out and sewn in a couple of days for a report on sizing for us barely B cup gals.
