I picked up this pattern for a top for DGD. The fabric came from Golden D'or Fabrics in Dallas during their last big clearance sale. I think the knit is poly. I don't like poly for me, but DGD doesn't mind it if she likes the print and the pattern. Closeup of the fabric:
First off, I was distracted the day I was sewing this one. The instructions called for a double yoke, sewing the shoulder seams AFTER sewing the neckline and the armhole--turning through the shoulder seam then machine sewing one side and hand sewing the underside. I knew there was a better way to do this, but, as I said, distracted, and just couldn't get my brain wrapped around the other way.
Then I was using the cover stitch machine to stitch around the neckline and one of the needle threads broke (this almost never happens) and I had to rip out and start over. Then the hem came out a little wavy. I think she'll like it anyway, but it shouldn't have taken me half a day to sew this one up! (But it did!)
Today, I cut out the pattern on the left (long waisted circle skirt) from some rayon challis that's been in the stash a while. I cut exactly by the pattern hoping it will be a wearable muslin. I wore this style back when it was "in" during the late 60's/early 70's, and I still like the style so here we go again!
Fabric here:
a muted floral of blues and purples.
That is a really cute top for your granddaughter. I'll bet you are at the top of her favorite people list! mssewcrazy
