Butterick 5246

Trying to get back into the "sewing saddle" I picked up this pattern and cut out some knit from the stash. It looked pretty easy and no picky fitting was necessary. I lowered the bust point about 1" as I almost always have to do. I lengthened the dress about 1" also just to have some fudge room if I needed it.

I wanted to use the cowl collar. I'm not happy with the collar. I think it needs to be cut much wider at the bottom. I have to really mess with it to get it to lay without the wrong side of the collar showing OR the neck seam itself. Can you see?

I will never be happy with it this way. So......I have enough fabric to cut another collar. I'm going to slash/spread so that I have more width at the bottom.

If this doesn't work, it will just be "collarless." Otherwise, I think I'm going to be happy with the dress.

I won't get back to it until at least Friday. I have plans for tomorrow that don't include sewing.

As a side note, I made Jessie a scrub for the clinic. She loved the scrub I made for myself out of this horse fabric. While looking for something else, I found the leftovers from that project. I had almost enough to make a pullover for her. So, I added the black. I think she will like it. I hope it doesn't look too "pasted together."

Oh, the PT on my shoulder is going well. I'm sore today from yesterday's session, but he said that was to be expected. I can already see some improvement, so the pain (when it does hurt) is worth it. I appreciate the comments and suggestions that were left concerning this situation.

The dress is really nice but if the collar bothers you, it probably needs the change. I still have the scrub pattern waiting in the wings. After I bought it on ebay for my daughter in a small size range, I decided I liked the button front version for a summer top to wear around the farm in summer for myself so I bought it in the larger sizes as well. It is a lot like an everyday shirt I make already but no sleeves to set in which should make it super fast to sew. It is great that your therapy is going well and you are back in the sewing room some. mssewcrazy
