Got a call from my friend, Rita, who owned my two horses before she gave them to me. She is coming for a short visit to see (as she puts it) "her old men." She is so excited as am I. It's been a few years since she was able to come. She was afraid that the last visit might have been the last time she would see Nino as he is now 31.
I learned to really ride on Nino. He was kind to me in the early days. He knew I was an amateur so he "taught" me. That's not to say he didn't try me a few times, but he never hurt me. Thank you! He's a real lover, and was so gentle with DGD when she was little.
She saw Nino the day he was born. She showed him until he began having some leg problems--that's when he came to live here and, basically, retire. That's when she began showing Jacque (Jac). A number of years later, she gave up showing, and so Jac came to join Nino in retirement.
I'll try to get some updated photos and post.
Anyhow, I'm trying to get the house in order and scrape off the dust. During my sewing room "remodel" not much real cleaning got done. So now is the time.
As a result, not much sewing going on. Between cleaning and physical therapy, my sewing time is slim. I might get into that room a bit this afternoon. I hope so!
I look forward to seeing the horse pictures. They sound like two great old horse friends. The grand mother of our three younger geldings died here at 34 and we thought of her as the "the babysitter" for the same reasons you described. I was the same as you - she taught me to ride safely as she did many others during her life . Her daughter who is of similar temperament is getting into the geriatric realm now and is having some problems with her feet. The ferrier trimmed all 6 horses today for winter. The geriatric mare and the old show gelding of my daughters' will go to the equine class Monday at vet school and get their teeth floated which should help them with their eating this winter. Guess you can tell we are horse people here as well. They are all fence warmers now but I still like them lots. mssewcrazy
