Yep...Nope...Rework

Yep!

Here's the muslin of the Pure and Simple Shell (Louise Cutting). I cut a size M+ and didn't change a thing. Easy; good fit for me; like it! Will make some of these.

Nope, not without a rework.

Sorry this photo is so dark; you may not be able to tell a thing about it. This is the Louise Cutting "Farewell to Arms" skirt pattern. I cut a medium. I had a heck of a time with the elastic. Instructions have you turn and sew casing, then thread elastic through casing. I could never keep the elastic flat while threading! I unsewed the casing and sewed the elastic to the casing edge and then turned and topstitched. I should have known better than to use wide elastic (because I don't use wide elastic on her one-seam pants), but I decided to go with the pattern. Bad move!

Right now, I think it makes me look fatter and dumpy. So as not to "waste" the fabric that I really like (50% rayon/50% poly), I will find the inspiration (will) to remove the elastic (with the four rows of topstitching), cut the band down and use a more narrow elastic. I will also take deeper front and back seams to take some "fluff" ease out of the hip area. I think I can make it work--I hope so, anyway.

I do like the side pockets and how they are sewn with the facing.

You may not be able to make heads or tails of this photo.

It's hot here (or hot to me for early March - in the 80's. I hate turning on the house A/C in March, but one does what one must! Weather folk are promising a cool snap mid-week. I hope they are right!

  1. The shell looks a perfect fit, and something very cool and comfortable for hot weather.

I think you're right about the skirt. There is probably too much fullness at the waistline for your body. Taking it in at the waist should solve the problem. Love the pocket.

  2. I've never sewn any of the Louise Cutting designs. I do like that shell - looks very comfy.

And I'm so jealous about your weather. You don't want to turn on the a/c while I with I could turn off the heat (below zero here again today) LOL

I love the fit of the shell. I have been reading on Stitchers Guild (just what I needed another place online to read). I ordered this pattern and several others after seeing several made up. I also am liking the skirt you made up- when I order again( if I am able to fit these I bought) I will get it and the couple of others I am interested in on the site. Her pieces look so wearable and classic. You make the prettiest things and are so fast at sewing them up. Nice work. mssewcrazy
