Interesting concept

I was catching up over on Stitcher's Guild, and there is a discussion about the Puyallup Expo. I would love to go sometime, but in reality, I probably never will. Washington state is a long plane ride from Texas; I've done it once for business a few years back. Anyhow, back on topic: someone mentioned that several designers noted that women generally buy too many patterns.

Guilty.....

However, I did make a "sorta resolution" to refrain from buying so many patterns "just because they are on sale." Since the first of this year, I have only purchased one pattern--the new Louise Cutting Pattern, "Pure and Simple." I bought it for the shell.

Again, back to topic: It was noted that one designer (I think it was Diane Ericson--forgive if I have that wrong) suggested using just one pattern per year and changing it up via one's imagination, creativity, etc.

I don't think I could use just ONE pattern for a whole year, but I'm liking the idea (for today, anyway) of using just a FEW patterns that have been perfected (as much as I'm able to perfect) for fit and GET CREATIVE.

An idea................that sounds good today...............but will it last????????????? We'll see.

I did trace off the Louise shell today and a Sandra Betzina pattern, Vogue 1049.

While I like to sew dresses, I don't have the need for many dresses. My retired life needs slacks, Tees, and a few work out shorts/tops for Curves. I have enough dresses for Church and special occasions for this summer.

Maybe I'll stick to what I NEED when sewing this summer. (?) Think??

I had not noticed the Betzina pattern - it looks very versatile. I don't do the assymetric but it has sleeve variations. I collect some of her patterns so will pick it up. The Cutting pattern is also new to me. I have her One Seam pants pattern and books. That must be a really special shell -did you see it made up somewhere ? I like it also. A good shell is priceless.
I hope those designers aren't serious about one pattern a year - I have too much fun looking at and buying patterns to forego the pleasure. There is always the fear that one you see made up and want to sew will get discontinued and be unavailable in the aftermarket. And you know it will be the very one that has 90 reviews on the PR site. I figure I can always auction them off or give them away if eventually I don't want some of them.
The bad thing about casual clothes for retirement is mine get mistreatment indoors and out so I am always needing to sew some new ones as the seasons change. I also need to make some new dresses and jackets for church and a couple of events I know are coming. My mind is willing but my back is being uncooperative lately. I am still trying to finish a home dec project for the new church hall before I can move on to greener pastures. Hopefully I will sew some next week. At least I now know two new patterns to order. Lol! mssewcrazy

  2. Every time I open my pattern cabinet and see all those that have never been made, I swear to myself I will not buy another pattern until I make up at least two. Then--they go on sale, and who can pass up $1.99 patterns? It's a curse.

  3. I buy patterns I have no intention of making. Sometimes I want to see (copy) a particular detail, sometimes I want to study the instruction sheet (Kwik Sews!), and sometimes they are like mini magazines for entertainment. $2.00/ea on sale is a small price for the value I get. There's no way I could stick to just one pattern a year, even if they all fit me out of the envelope.
