Lookin' Good

I got a chance to get a photo of my "muslin" of my "tape copy pattern." It has a bit of a neck gap and armhole gap. You will see in the photos below.

The back looks a bit wonky as I sewed up the back seam as far as I could (to still be able to try on the dress and then pinned, as best I could, the opening closed). Bad when one doesn't have a sewing helper and neither of the dogs have mastered straight pins yet.

This gap was not in the "original" so it could have been that I stretched the neck a bit or something else. I slashed at the neck and in the armhole (as to take small darts). I then over laid each opening by about 1/4" and moved those to the side bust dart, thus widening that dart.

Then I cut a 2nd muslin. Sorry I don't have pics, but that worked for me. I think I can also take in the side seams at the hip a bit. (Actually the original could stand to be taken in at the hips a bit, but I just haven't taken the time as it is compforable as is.) Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that a little loose is better than too tight. Just my ease preference.

Anyhow, I'm happy with this project so I need to find some stash fabric and lining to make the "real thing."

Then yesterday, while the plumbers were here I got out some old Burda WOF's and traced out a dress #129 from 5/2005. I looked at the website to try to link a picture, but looks like the archives only go back to 1/2006. Maybe I can get a photo later.

And why the plumbers? We are having the tub replaced in the master bath. Monday, they tore out the old tub. Yesterday, they moved the drain and water lines. (Naturally, the drain and faucets from the old tub were not the same place as the new one.) He thought the tub might be ready to bring out today, but I guess not as we have not seen them yet today. Then, there will be some tiling and carpenter work to do. I'm looking forward to the project being completed, but it really hasn't been too bad dealing with it.

See the big blank space now?
