Since I last posted,

we've had snow! Woke up Friday morning to this:

OK, it's not THAT much, but we so seldom get any snow that it was beautiful to me. And by 10 a.m. it was mostly gone and the temps climbed to mid 50s. This was the first time for Onyx (the Rottie) to see snow. She was a bit confused until she realized she could eat it. Then, that made everything alright.

That afternoon I cut out this Louise Cutting pattern, A Subtle Twist. I had a bolt of linen/cotton that I had purchased last summer from C & C Fabrics in Dallas, so I used 2+ yards of that. I love Louise's sewing instructions. I have stayed away from collar stands, because I just didn't trust myself to make a pretty one, but her instructions were great, and I am pleased with my effort.

Today I completed it. I needed buttons. The pattern called for .5" buttons. In looking through my button stashes, I found:

Check the price in the lower left hand corner. Just 10 cents! I think these came from an E-bay "button tin buy." Just what I needed, right size and right color!

So here's how the buttons look on on the jacket (excuse the chalk line which has yet to be removed):

I like it.

  1. Your shirt is fantastic. I have been looking for a fabric like that for a few years now. I was wondering where you got that fabric, or is a stashed fabric that I have no chance of finding. I have added your blog to my list to read. Thanks for sharing on SG.

  2. Hi Linda, I purchased the fabric at C&C Fabrics which is located in the "garment district" area of Dallas. It has been in the stash at least since last summer. I doubt there is any more there. BUT, I bought the whole bolt so I'm sure I'll have some left after I compete a skirt or dress. When that's done, I will sell you the rest if you like.
