The Design Element Collar

Finally, a photo of my "creative design element."

The upper collar (which should have been the under collar)

The under collar (which should have been the upper collar)

It's now ready for wear. I got the button holes and buttons completed yesterday afternoon.

We had a fun time at Pursley's in Duncanville. Everything in the store was on sale. Lots of $2.98/yd with 30% off - making it about $2/yd. I picked up 4 pieces which I will photo and show you later. I know----more fabric----YIKES!

Here are the notions I picked up. Two sets of buttons, 10 yds of 1/4" clear elastic at .05/yd. Some pant/skirt zippers for .25/each and the elephants. They have a stud on the back which I will cut off since there were no backs included (if I can) and use probably on a purse flap. The elephants were only .25 each and they make me smile!

Here are my sewing buddies snoozing on the cool floor while I put buttonholes in the jacket. What a messy sewing room! I began picking it up after dinner last night and will finish today before I begin another project.

The collar looks fine. I think we get all caught up in this and that sometimes. I have resolved to inspect rtw construction lots closer as I am seeing all sorts of crazy things people who sew at home would never let pass. Almost always casual khaki and twill shirts, the seams get really puckered after the first wash- no prewashing . I would not be happy with that on things I sew but don't think that much when rtw does it.
The sewing room looks about normal for here. I have never figured out how to sew without creating chaos. I clean it all up and then hesitate starting a new project not wanting to mess it up so it is always no win when it comes to straightening up. Of course too much mess makes me not want to do a project either Lol!
The dogs look all comfy. My rescue dog and cat get bored when I am occupied and do the same. They just want to be wherever I am even if they don't particularly like each other they nap together.
Your shopping trip was really good. The elastic is awesome- at that price I think I would sew it into everything. The elephants make me remember a purse project ufo that is still waiting for me(forgot about it) -need to get it out this fall and bring the elephants to life as the tapestry fabric is really pretty.I enjoy your blog lots. mssewcrazy

  2. I think your shirt looks great! Don't sweat the small stuff, I am constantly putting collars and collar bands on upsidedown, backwards, everything but inside out! And I am glad to see your sewing companions, my sewing room always looks like a zoo, too...with Ollie the cat supervising from his perch on the stash, and Spaz the dog asleep under the cutting table.

Oh I miss shopping in Duncanville since I moved out of Dallas a couple years ago. So jealous at your great finds!
