My Finds

I picked up our local paper last night. It's a weekly paper that arrives each Thursday. I noticed in the ad section, "Estate Sale" with a rather long list of items that were for sale. Among the things listed were: "Singer Sewing Machine, Featherweight." While I'm not really interested in the machines (I already have 2 Featherweights), I thought, hmm--maybe sewing notions, patterns, etc.

I picked up Sis for our regular trip to Curves this morning and ask if she'd like to visit the Estate sale on the way home. Sure.

The sale actually started Thursday morning so I thought it might be well "picked over." BUT, it's on the way home from Curves and a nice, older neighborhood. Well, we had to park about 5 houses down--Lots of people shopping.

There were many beautiful things, some wonderful furniture (I already have a more than a house full of furniture) There were some lovely rockers, and I would have bought one if I'd had a place to put it..... I asked the Estate Sale overseers about the sewing items. She said, "if anything is left it will be in the back bedroom on the left." I headed out. No sewing machines in that room, but some notions which you will see later in this post.

I picked out some items and Sis and I started through the rest of the house. In the back den area, I saw this:

Hmm, nice little table. But on closer look at the paper with the price listed was "Unusual sewing cabinet." See?????

The bottom drawer is not a drawer, but swings around to reveal places to keep thread spools on the top tier and tatting/crochet thread on the lower tier.

The top drawer is a real drawer (and full of stuff). I tell sis, "I MUST HAVE THIS." Price is $125, BUT everything has been marked down 25% so LESS THAN $100. I quickly told the cashier and grabbed a "SOLD" sign to go on it. Good thing because two more ladies asked about it after I slapped that SOLD sign on.

These buttonholers were in yet another room so I picked up both of them.

These patterns were all in one plastic bag in the first room. Eight patterns marked $2 in a size I can easily work with. Not being able to see them all--for $1.50 (25% off--remember?) why not????

These four were well worth the $1.50. The other 4? Blaa.

And the last thing: this hem marker. I'll likely never use it, but for $1.50, why not?????

Oh and the Featherweight? Yes, it was still there. It was beautiful and I SHOULD have gotten it. It was in pristine condition and had all the original sales info. Marked $350 (then 25% off), but I just couldn't see bringing a 3rd one home. I did check back with them there and it did sell today, so I can't go back and get it.

And are you wondering about Sis? Yes, she found some lovely things INCLUDING a beautiful white gold ring that fit her perfectly. We both left smiling!

Just had to agree on your great finds & let you know that I stumbled upon an almost identical sewing cabinet a little over a year ago - and snapped it up quickly. Style on the outside was different, more regency-look with lion head handles, & finish in not great shape, but exact same swing out "drawer" that just called out to me to purchase it!
