I found a pretty cotton voile border print that I thought DGD would like so I pulled out McCalls 5469 and decided on View B.
It's been a long while since I sewed on voile, but I actually enjoyed the experience. I used french seams for the side, shoulder and sleeve seams. I did serge around the sleeve inset and the seam where the ruffle was sewn on the sleeve.
What do you think?
Close-up of the front pleats:
It was an easy sew. I used the XS and lengthened it by 1". From the pattern envelope measurements, I "should have sewn" a size S, BUT the last McCall top pattern I used for her (cut at a S) SWALLOWED her! I hope this one will work. Since she's in St. Louis and I'm here--no way to try on and adjust while sewing.
Anyhow, this fabric was a sample precut at 3 yards and $2/yd. It's going to wrinkle, but I think she will be OK with it.
I liked this pattern and will probably try to make a top for myself from it at some point.
This top is so pretty .Your GD is sure to love it. I like your dresse too. It's been so rainy and cool all summer that I haven't worn any of my sundresses this year. High hopes for August!
ReplyDeleteI think it's terrific. Looks cool and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteNice top- I am really liking the look of the sheer fabrics as of late. I am still not sewing but have bought a couple of rtw over blouses of these sorts of fabrics this summer. It's good you sew so fast being near those fabulous fabric haunts. mssewcrazy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful top! I love the fabric and the use of the variations in the print. Your GD is going to love it!
ReplyDeleteVery cute top. I live in Hurst and I'm curious - where are your fabric haunts in Dallas and Duncanville?
