I FINALLY got back to it. Good thing it was a vintage pattern as the dress is now 2 vintage years older!
To "fix" it, I whacked off the "bunnies."
After trying it on and off, measuring where to put the shoulder seams, whether to alter the neck, etc....I decided I still needed a method to "tie" the shoulder seams so the neckline/armholes would fit as it was intended. They both needed to be "pulled up and in" somehow. Otherwise, I would need to recut/reshape both. I didn't want to go to THAT MUCH work at this point.
So, I cut 2 "ties" from self fabric. I rolled hemmed the edges and tied each of them at the shoulder seam.
Ta Da! Here it is:
I'll try to post a photo tomorrow when I have hair and makeup done for church.
It's good that you were able to come up with a solution to what you did not like about the dress - I would probably have outgrown some section of the dress in that length of time. I thought I had read the archived posts here but apparently not, can't believe I missed reading them after following this blog for quite a while - sooo I can read them as I have time which I will enjoy I am sure! mssewcrazy
