Success with the Binder!

I ordered one of the binders from the E-bay binder man a couple of years ago. I have the Janome CoverPro 900. It came in the mail and then I realized I needed a "table" to screw or tape to secure it. Time passed............Then I bought a Janome acrylic table, but found it was not real secure. Hmm. More time passes.

Finally, today I decided to see if I could make it work. I had some wide masking tape and set up the Cover Pro with the acrylic table. I then secured the table to the machine with a couple of strips of tape. Then, I looked up the discussion on PR about this attachment. With that assistance, I got the thing taped to the bed of the machine, and I began to 'play.'

The CP900 has the wide CS only. So it doesn't give the RTW look completely. But it is a workable stitch for me. Then I decided to try it on my Evolve (which doesn't get alot of use anymore). With the narrow CS, I got more of the RTW look. I'm happy to have finally been successful with this attachment. Not sure that I'll ever be as proficient as Debbie or Belinda, but hey, this is a good start!

I started out with a scrap of rayon/lycra jersey. WRONG fabric to start with (too limp and loosy goosy)--then I found some cotton interlock--MUCH BETTER.

With the Cover Pro:

With the Evolve:

Machines with the binder "attached."

In the mail today:

Recent E-bay purchases. I have some more on the way. I've been selling a few on E-bay, but I think I'm replacing them as fast as I sell some!

I have the 900 coverstitch as well but have not bought any binders yet. I had planned to only hem knits with it which I do(being petite I even shorten purchased knit tops). After making a couple of knit tops, I started using it on the neck binding as a topstitch treatment. I noticed on one of my daughter's tee shirts that the seam at the neck lay in between the stitches so that is what I do now. Looking at rtw you see all sorts of things that they do. I figured if they could do that I would as well. I think it looks better this way with the wider 900 stitch but that is me. You are making me want to buy those binders which I don't mind - just fear I will not ever master them.

I took another look at your first photo of the coverpro stitch and the first line of stitching I do is closer to the edge than yours while the second stitch line is on the body of the shirt. When you have thread that matches closely or on a print it looks pretty good.
I just realized that you are actually binding rather than topstitching (excuse my slow lightbulb moment). I am out of my league here totally so ignore my coverstitch comments. I have been using the thing to topstitch around the neck only. mssewcrazy
