I traced off a size 16. I wasn't feeling as lucky today, so I cut it from another one of those poly knits in the stash. Someone gave this fabric to me; it's not my color, so it was perfect for a "test."
Some adjustments were necessary, and I modified only the left side. The only adjustment I made before I cut the fabric was a forward shoulder adjustment. I basted/sewed. I tried it on, and it was evident I needed to take a deeper shoulder seam for the shoulder slope (not a real surprise) so I did that. Next try on I decided the side seam needed to be taken in about a seams width under the arm. Took out the sleeve and made that adjustment. Then, too much fabric where the bodice joined the sleeve in front so I hollowed out the armhole a bit and re-basted. Then the sleeve seemed too big, so I pinned in a tuck; basted and it looked better.
Here is the adjustment to the sleeve pattern when I took the sleeve out and recut:
After those adjustments here's the right side (no adjustment)
and the left side (with the adjustments)
I'm not sure what's going on with that wrinkle under the arm. I need to explore further.
Anyhow, I did enjoy this project and learned that I think I'd rather have the "v" neck version, so I will probably sew that view if I decide to sew the "good knit."
So, even though I don't have a completed, new top this afternoon, 2 more yards of fabric are out of the stash, and I can add 2 more yards to the "sewn" tracking.
I never made this alteration before so I've learned something useful..thanks!
