Simplicity 3678

I'm loving this pattern!

After sewing some flannel pants for the injured soldiers, I got a spurt of energy to go through my pattern stash to see if I could find a dress that I could get enthused about sewing. I have picked up so many during the .99 and 1.99 sales. I picked out about 4 that had promise for today's project and settled on this Simplicity. I'm so happy with it.

I picked this knit out of my stash. I think it is rayon/lycra (a really nice/soft hand and drape). It was a bit difficult to sew (without stretching every .5 inch) when I had to use the machine rather than the serger. Sew three stitches, lift the presser foot, let the fabric relax and go again for a few stitches. I really don't remember where I picked it up or ordered it from, but there was enough fabric and it is a "winter" color. Many of my stash knits are more spring/summer varieties.

I looked at measurements and since the fit of the pattern is not real precise, I decided to take a chance and sew a 16 out of the envelope. It WORKED! I LOVE it! I will definitely sew a summer version of this.

I have a few finishing touches plus putting in the elastic in the sleeve wrist and hemming it.

The pattern reminds me a bit of those dresses I was sewing in high school/college with the empire lines and the fuller sleeves (with elastic) and no heavy duty fitting. Actually many of the patterns coming out now remind me of those "vintage" styles.

Here it is on Saphroni:

Close up of the print. The "purple" is more of a burgandy purple. Hard to see in the pics.

Today was a fun sewing day!

Your dress turned out really cute! I like the print. I have to say, sewing on knit still makes me a bit nervous. I have a serger, but it makes me a bit nervous too! I'm working on overcoming this. Anyway, your knit dress turned out very nice.
